COUNSELLING BASED IN Denbigh, wales

Feeling disconnected with your emotions?

Disembodiment, rooted in childhood conditioning, often involves learning to suppress emotions to appease parental figures. This suppression may lead to difficulties expressing feelings as an adult, hindering the natural release of oxytocin and endorphins that regulate emotional well-being. Many were not taught how to navigate a spectrum of emotions and were instead discouraged from fully experiencing them.

This lack of emotional safety in childhood can result in a fear of intense emotions, causing adults to disconnect from their feelings. Unlike other mammals that freely express emotions, humans may struggle to allow the energy of emotions to flow through their bodies. This fear-driven disconnection often manifests in avoidance, distraction, and dissociation, impacting overall well-being.

In a culture that fosters disconnection, individuals may find it challenging to be fully embodied, perpetuated by various modern influences like media, social platforms, and commercial distractions. Reconnecting with one's body is essential for understanding and processing emotions, fostering a more authentic and integrated sense of self.

Reconnect

Embodiment practices aim to bring your conscious presence back into your body, rebuilding trust and reconnecting with your bodily wisdom. The goal is to achieve a better balance between giving power to your body and mind allowing your body to guide choices in life. These practices encourage acknowledging and embracing emotions, assuring that feeling is a safe and empowering experience. By recognising moments of contraction or escape in your body and mind, you gain the chance to navigate and release anxiety. The beauty lies in discovering your instinctual movements, breath patterns, and unique expressions that support your overall well-being.

Take some time out each day to complete this exercise

Feel free to close your eyes during this practice to heighten your awareness of your felt sense. Choose a comfortable position, whether lying down, seated or another posture that draws you into your body. Notice the support beneath you, allowing your body to sink into it.
Focus on your natural breathing, exploring shallow or deep breaths. Scan your body, acknowledging areas of discomfort and seeking pockets of pleasant sensation. Engage in enjoyable movements, perhaps gently stroking your skin or making small gestures. Listen to your pleasure body and follow its lead, transitioning intuitively between positions.
Expand your pleasurable sensations and visualise their growth. If you encounter discomfort, explore bringing pleasure to the area, but prioritise following pleasure. The practice can vary in duration, concluding when you choose. Slow down, pause, and open your eyes, landing on something beautiful. Embodiment is a commitment to rediscovering yourself fostering loving awareness of bodily sensations and emotions to rebuild trust and safety. Regular practice cultivates a deep craving for this mindful movement.
